Critique du pilote de la série Spotless de Canal+

Spotless est la nouvelle série originale de Canal+. Ayant pour showrunner Ed McCardie (qui a notamment travaillé pour le Shameless britannique) et se déroulant à Londres, la série porte de nombreux espoirs. Canal+ réussira-t’il à reproduire le succès des Revenants ?

Synopsis

Cela fait des années qu’ils ne se sont pas vus lorsque Martin, un loser qui multiplie les mauvaises fréquentations et accumule les problèmes, débarque chez son frère, Jean, un Frenchy installé à Londres où il mène une vie bien rangée de chef d’entreprise, de mari, de père de famille… et d’amant discret. Martin n’est pas le bienvenu. Jean a tiré un trait sur son passé.
Mais le métier de Jean, nettoyeur de scènes de crimes, et le don de Martin d’attirer les embrouilles vont très vite les propulser dans l’univers à la fois sordide et délirant du crime organisé. Et ils vont devoir affronter leurs traumatismes et comprendre que rien ou presque ne pourra véritablement effacer le terrible secret qui remonte à leur enfance, dans leur Vendée natale, au cœur de la ferme familiale.

Critique

spotlessDès le générique, Spotless donne le ton. Très similaire à celui de Dexter, on s’attend donc à une série ayant une trame assez noire, tout en étant décalée et tout sauf bien pensante.

C’est exactement ce que nous offre Spotless, nous introduisant dans la vie de Jean, frenchy installé à Londres et dirigeant une entreprise de nettoyage de lieux de crimes. Si le métier n’est pas inconnu, c’est certainement l’une des premières fois qu’on la découvre sur un petit ou un grand écran (Sunshine Cleaning par exemple). Et un peu comme la spécialité en chimie de Walter White dans Breaking Bad, on va vite se rendre compte que les compétences de Jean peuvent servir à d’autres choses… et les malfrats aux alentours ne tarderont pas à s’en rendre compte.

Il y a justement du Breaking Bad dans Spotless. D’un côté par le rôle de Jean, parfait père de famille fauché, exerçant un métier qui peut-être très valorisé dans les milieux sombres, et qui évidemment ne veut pas mêler sa famille à cela. Mais aussi de l’autre par celui de Martin, dealer du dimanche, toujours fourré dans les mauvais plans et qui n’en rate pas une pour mettre son frère dans l’embarras.

Si les ressemblances sont frappantes, elles s’arrêtent ici pour le moment. L’ambiance de la série n’est en rien comparable à celle de Vince Gilligan. Au désert ensoleillé du Nouveau-Mexique s’oppose la pluvieuse Londres, et si il y a du Walter White dans Jean Bastière, on ne sent pas (encore) le potentiel leader dans ce dernier.

jean_martin_spotlessPour le reste, la série est bien écrite, et l’on a pas vraiment le temps de s’ennuyer dans ce pilote où les événements s’enchaînent très vite. Un humour très british, très noir vient apporter de plus à la série un côté profondément sympathique. Les situations sont parfois grotesques et en totale contradiction avec l’état d’esprit des personnages, ce qui produit un contraste amusant et réussi.

En conclusion, il est difficile de dire si Spotless aura le même succès que les Revenants. En revanche, on peut sas trop de risque affirmer que si la série est au niveau de son pilote, on passera devant un très bon moment. Et c’est déjà beaucoup.

Pour information, le pilote sera diffusé exceptionnellement en clair sur le site de la série dès lundi 16 mars à 21h !

Le synopsis et la bande annonce semblaient présager un Coen mineur, une sorte de « Chute Libre » yiddish où un « homme sérieux » donc, en avait marre d'encaisser les coups et se révoltait contre ses problèmes dans un élan de furie vengeresse. Heureusement les Coen n'ont pas sombré dans cette simplicité… « A Serious Man » cache son jeu pour mieux frapper en temps voulu, et derrière une modestie très pro (pas de promo abusive ou mensongère, pas de stars à l'écran si ce n'est peut-être Richard Kind, acteur vaguement célèbre qu'on a surtout vu en Ralph dans « Spin City ») se cache un film très personnel, aussi maîtrisé et net qu'une formule mathématique, et qui pourrait, de surcroit, être LE film du pourquoi du comment de l'univers des frères Coen…
